High Impact Programs

The Office of Economic Development works to integrate economic development activities across schools and departments at Rutgers University by organizing inter-school events and resources that facilitate interactions. We initiate and/or manage many high-impact programs that impact the university, the region and the state.   Current initiatives include Innovation Park @ Rutgers; Rutgers Discovery Informatics Institute; and various International Partnerships.   An example of a high profile events that brought business innovators together with our faculty, staff and students is included below.

Rutgers University-Nicholson Foundation Healthcare Idea-Thon and Challenge

The Rutgers University-Nicholson Foundation Healthcare Idea-Thon  and Challenge were first-of-their kind competitions that involved multi-disciplinary partnerships between Rutgers faculty, staff and students to spur creative ideas that can improve health outcomes and reduce health care costs of vulnerable populations in New Jersey.  Teams were required to include members from multiple departments while competing for a $50,000 prize to be used for product commercialization.   A story about the winning team, Copernicus Health, and their smartphone application that will engage and motivate patients with Type 2 Diabetes in underserved populations, can be found here
