Rutgers Office of Research Commercialization

Rutgers Office of Research Commercialization turns academic discoveries into commercial successes. The office provides a range of services suited to the innovation's stage of development and discipline including: research/intellectual property support; marketing; contracts/licensing;and new ventures/start-up company formation. To date, over 100 start-up companies have been created based on Rutgers technology and two thirds of these companies are New Jersey-based.   Rutgers has over 1,500 technologies available for licensing.  They are in areas including

  • Food, Nutrition and Nutraceuticals

Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development

Rutgers Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development (CUEED) located in Newark, integrates academic research with private capital, government, and non-profit sectors to develop citywide resources and bring renewed economic growth and vitality through urban entrepreneurship. CUEED seeks to build strong community and corporate partnerships that support the revitalization of Newark and other urban areas in New Jersey.

Rutgers Food Industry Gateway

The Rutgers Food Industry Gateway provides easy access to university  resources for the food and agricultural sectors. Centers such as the Rutgers Food Innovation Center North (located in Piscataway, NJ) and South (located in Bridgeton, NJ) offer unique production facilities and business development services. Institutes and departments such as the Sensory Sciences Institute, Institute for Food Nutrition and Health, department of Food Science and department of Nutritional Science offer expertise, basic and applied research capabilities, specialized equipment and facilities.

New Jersey Small Business Development Center Network

The New Jersey Small Business Development Center Network is composed of headquarters located at Rutgers Business School - Newark and New Brunswick, eleven full-service, regional centers and an additional twenty-seven affiliate (or satellite) offices located throughout the state.  Each center provides a variety of educational and business resources to help small business owners finance, market and manage their companies.

New Jersey Clean Energy Resource Network 

The New Jersey Clean Energy Resource Network (NJ CERN) is a state-wide initiative led by the Rutgers EcoComplex and the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission Business Accelerator.  It is designed to assist renewable energy and energy efficiency companies to grow and prosper in New Jersey.  The NJCERN Resource Database brings together a wide range of valuable business resources, including:

  • State and Federal renewable energy and energy efficiency incentives
  • Business financing opportunities
  • Policies and permitting information
  • Business development assistance
  • Green job training
