Resources for the Community
All Rutgers campuses engage in significant community outreach and civic engagement initiatives. Below is a brief overview of the major offices and initiatives.
Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES)
The Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES), headquartered on Rutgers New Brunswick Campus, has provided innovative teaching, research, and outreach programs since 1880. With offices in all 21 New Jersey counties, NJAES serves to identify emerging economic issues, nurture solutions to these issues, and build the community’s capacity to transform demonstration into implementation.
The NJAES Cooperative Research and Extension programs focus on the following areas:
- Food, Nutrition and Health
- Commercial Agriculture
- Environment and Natural Resources
- Fisheries and Aquaculture
- Home, Lawn and Garden
- Youth, Community and Economic Development
The NJAES houses a multitude of on-campus and off-campus centers and institutes that focus on a variety of scientific and policy areas. A complete list of NJAES centers and institutes can be found here.
RBHS Community Health Programs
Health services at Rutgers aim to ensure that all individuals, particularly those living in traditionally underserved areas, have access to high-quality health care regardless of their cultural or ethnic background or ability to pay. Many of Rutgers' programs serve residents in urban communities of New Jersey.
Rutgers Office of University – Community Partnerships
The Community Partnerships and Engagement unit of the Rutgers Newark Office of University – Community Partnerships oversees programs and initiatives that create and strengthen bridges between Rutgers-Newark and the Greater Newark community. The unit brokers partnerships that help faculty, staff, and students to plan and implement community-based research initiatives. The unit also helps to connect faculty and students with service opportunities and organizations in the Greater Newark community.
Office of Civic Engagement
The Office of Civic Engagement connects Rutgers–Camden to communities beyond the campus. Working with campus and community partners, the office supports engaged civic learning; volunteerism and service; community-based research; and integrated efforts to meet the challenges facing Camden city, Camden county, and the region.
